Conditions We Treat

We treat a variety of eye conditions here at Insight Eyecare Jenks. These conditions include refractive errors, cataracts, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, and amblyopia. Below is more information about each of these conditions.

Refractive Errors

Refractive errors include myopia (nearsightedness), astigmatism, presbyopia (age-related farsightedness), and hyperopia (farsightedness). These can be corrected with contacts and eyeglasses.

Cataracts

Cataracts mainly develop in patients that are over the age of 40. As we age, the fibers in our lens change shape, making the tissue in the lens opaque. Vision can become cloudy and patients have stated that halos occur due to cataracts.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is where the optic nerve becomes damaged, which results in poor vision. An increase in inner eye pressure and weaker peripheral vision are early signs of glaucoma.

Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)

Age-related macular degeneration, also referred to as (AMD), is where the macula (center of the retina) is damaged. This can happen because of blood vessels letting out liquid behind the retina, called wet AMD, or yellow deposits growing behind the macula, otherwise known as dry AMD. Symptoms include becoming supersensitive to glare and vision becoming blurrier over time.

Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetic retinopathy is the main reason why patients with diabetes become blind. When the blood sugar levels of a patient with diabetes are too high, this can negatively affect the health of the eyes. The retina has small blood vessels that can be damaged from these blood sugar levels, which can scar and damage the retina.

Amblyopia

Amblyopia is commonly known as "lazy eye". This is usually caused by a developmental issue between the brain and the eye. Blurry vision usually occurs due to lazy eye.
